On Sunday April 18th an intimate group of eighteen travelers met at the Endicott Estate for the season opener –“The BreakdownTour”. It was a dismalday with off and on drizzle. But, westill managed to attract a couple of antique vehicles. Bob and Ann Marie Hamm did an outstanding job organizing this event. Our trip took us along the back roads of Dedham, Canton, Stoughton, Sharon and Easton to our destination, Benjamin’s Restaurantin Taunton where we enjoyed a buffet lunch in our own private dining room.

On Sunday, May 2nd Jon Diamond and Dianne Teves put together our second adventure of the season. Thirty-two members and guest join in on this event with a line-up of ten antique vehicles. Jon and Dianne had everything planned out right down to the weather. Yes, they did it again! That’s two years in a row of top-down 90 degree weather for the Diamond/Teves team. The tour included a trip to “The Restaurant” in Woburn for breakfast followed by a visit to the National Heritage Museum in Lexington. Thanks Jon and Dianne for a wonderful event.

On Sunday May 23rd, Hal Galberg and Peter Cook led 13 antique automobiles from the BSAAC and 33 VW’s from the Bay State Volkswagon Owners Club on a trip to Hudson, MA to view Charles Gould’s collection of Mini and Micro Cars. The tour began in Dedham and included a quick stop in Natick for coffee and donuts before proceeding to Hudson. Charles was a gracious host - taking the time to explain the difference between mini- and micro- vehicles. He also took the time to explain the history behind several of his miniature cars. After the viewing the collection, we headed off the local 99 Restaurant for lunch. Our thanks go out to Hal, Peter and Charles for a great tour.

The Magical Mystery Tour - It was a wild weekend of weather, but we managed to pull it off. The Magical Mystery Tour went off as scheduled on Sunday June 6th. Our tour leaders Skip and Marge Dunham led the procession from Norfolk west over back roads to Douglas and then south to Rhode Island. It wasn't the most direct route, but it certainly was a strikingly scenic drive. We arrived at our destination, the estate of Angelo Calcagni in Greenville, Rhode Island, around noontime. We were met by Angelo's brother-in-law who opened Angelo's car barn to the amazement of all. It was a virtual museum with five antique trucks, twenty one antique cars, numerous antiques toys and a variety of other collectibles. The gang spent the better part of an hour perusing the collection which included a stunning 1936 Graham. While we were admiring all of his toys, Angelo and his wife, Lucy, were busy preparing a spectacular barbeque lunch for us.
After lunch when things were looking like they were about to wind down, Angelo invited the troop to climb aboard his fire trucks for a ride through the woods to his son's, Peter’s, home. Peter’s home was more like a compound with an oversized house, a large fish pond surrounded by train tracks for his model train, a full scale carousel relocated from Rocky Point and a replica Ford Service Station complete with five beautiful old Fords. After admiring the cars and his restoration shop, we headed over to the former pool house and where Peter had four more vehicles on display along with an old Howard Johnson Ice Cream Wagon which he was restoring. Like his father, Peter has an abundance of toys and was happy to share them with us.
What an adventure! We want to thank Skip and Marge for organizing this unbelievable excursion. We also want to thank the entire Calcagni family for their hospitality in sponsoring this exceptional adventure for us.
